I wrote this pretty soon after my dad passed away. I was walking around his house and noticing how much everyone and everything missed him and how grief was keeping everyone clinging to the same patterns we were going through before he died just to give us some sense of familiarity and comfort. Seeing that, just a moment, made me feel like I existed outside of everything and could see things in a cosmic perspective and it made it all so much worse...
The cats still walk the house
Looking for you
They hover and they howl
Through every room
I see it in their eyes
Begging to say "good bye"
The cats still walk the house looking for you
The dogs lay by the door
Waiting for you
Head resting on the floor
Nothing to do
With every passing car
I see that little spark
Then I watch them start all over
I stand in the room where you used to be
I stare into the nothingness as it swallows me
I melt into the cracks
I'm never coming back
I stand in your room and I'm gone
I stand in your room and I'm gone
I feel my pocket shake
But it's nothing
Some pointless notification
About nothing
